Pye started production
of television cameras soon after the end of WW2. They chose to use
the Photicon tube, a member of the Iconoscope family of tubes that
had received considerable development during the war and were further
developed by Pye and Cathodeon to the variant known as the PES Photicon
(Pesticon). The Mk3 camera was the first Pye to use an Image Orthicon
tube and this continued through to the Mk7 camera. The Mk 8 was offered
with either a Vidicon or Plumbicon tube, and the short lived colour
telecine camera which marked the end of the Pye camera developmental
line had 4 Plumbicons. Later Pye TVT model numbers start with "84" this was sometimes omitted on early models . |
