Television Camera with a single lens and optical viewfinder

This camera was designed by the BBC in 1948 as an exercise to see what could be archived using a modern midget Image Iconoscope tube and an optical viewfinder.

In 1948 it was far from clear that the electronic viewfinder would become the accepted normal and the pros and cons of viewfinders are discussed in the report.

During 1948 camera design was a new "art" the three UK manufacturers having just released there first designs to the market.
