Thomson TTV-1531 Television Camera text

The "B.B.C." affair    (B. Tichit writes) :-

The highly respected BBC had seen the disappearance of all its British Camera suppliers (such as Marconi and Link), because of requirements that were sometimes difficult to meet… It was extremely interested in the Thomson TTV 1530, provided we agreed to make modifications… This was how the TTV 1531 was born.
We had to abandon all the simplifications of the TTV 1530, in particular adding talkback with the famous English “jack”, adding a considerable number of safeguards such as allowing connection of Ikegami control units to Thomson heads without damage, etc… and installing 50Ω BNC connectors in place of 75Ω connectors because they were more robust… The list of modifications seemed interminable… but these were details, and overall the new Camera was obviously a considerable advance. With the “BBC” label it was commercially more attractive, the BBC having a (justified) reputation for being the world’s most exacting customer…
This Camera was a real success with the BBC, and the essentials of the control panels and links were to be used for a long time in our Cameras, allowing a gentle transition to CCDs… More than 150 Production Cameras of various types were sold to the BBC…
